13 Tamil Nadu Police Officers Conferred IPS Rank by Union Government – Check Full List Here

Chennai: In a significant cadre elevation, the Ministry of Home Affairs has conferred Indian Police Service (IPS) status on 13 police officers from Tamil Nadu, officially inducting them into the IPS cadre through select lists for 2023 and 2024.

The communication was sent by the Union Government to the Tamil Nadu government, confirming the elevation of officers currently serving as Superintendents of Police (SPs) across various cities and districts in the state.

Eight Officers Included in Select List 2023

The following eight officers from the Select List 2023 have been conferred IPS:

  • I. Eswaran
  • S. Aravind
  • N. Stephen Jesupatham
  • P. Thangadurai
  • D. Ashok Kumar
  • S.S. Maheswaran
  • V.R. Srinivasan
  • K. Prabhakar

Five Officers Included in Select List 2024

The following five officers from Select List 2024 were also granted IPS:

  • C. Shyamala Devi
  • K. Adhiveerapandian
  • M. Kingshlin
  • V. Shyamala Devi
  • L. Balaji Saravanan

Currently Serving as Superintendents of Police

According to police sources, all 13 officers are presently posted in the rank of Superintendent of Police in different districts and urban police units across Tamil Nadu.

The conferment of IPS places them formally within the All India Service structure, allowing future postings at senior leadership levels within state and central policing systems.

What IPS Conferment Means

IPS conferment through promotion is granted to eligible State Police Service officers after empanelment under select lists approved by the Union Government.

This process recognizes:

  • seniority
  • service record
  • vigilance clearance
  • suitability for higher command responsibilities

After induction, officers become eligible for postings such as:

  • Deputy Inspector General (DIG)
  • Inspector General (IG)
  • senior state police leadership roles
