Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday handed over appointment letters to 187 newly selected candidates for government service in Uttarakhand. At a ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s Camp Office, appointment letters were distributed to 182 candidates selected through the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) PCS Main Examination-2024 and five candidates selected as Personal Assistants in the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department.
Congratulating the newly appointed officers, the Chief Minister said that an appointment letter is not merely a document of employment but a symbol of the trust of 12.5 million people of Uttarakhand and the responsibility of public service. He said an officer is defined not by position but by work ethic, sensitivity, and commitment towards the people.
The Chief Minister informed that nearly 150,000 candidates had applied for the PCS Main Examination-2024, while more than 71,000 appeared for the examination. Out of them, only 182 candidates were selected, reflecting their hard work, discipline, and merit.
He said that in a democracy, holding a government post does not mean ruling over people but serving them. Officers must ensure that government schemes reach even the last person in the queue with transparency and compassion. Citizens travelling from remote areas should receive respectful treatment and timely resolution of their grievances in government offices.
The Chief Minister said the state government has implemented a stringent anti-cheating law to ensure transparency in recruitment. As a result, more than 34,000 youths have secured government jobs through fair and transparent recruitment processes over the past four and a half years. He added that the government’s objective is to provide employment opportunities based on merit so that young people are not forced to migrate in search of jobs.
He urged the newly appointed officers to always uphold the Constitution, the rule of law, and public interest while discharging their duties with honesty and impartiality. He assured them that the state government would firmly stand by every officer who works with integrity.
The event was attended by Cabinet Ministers Ganesh Joshi, Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, Ram Singh Kaida, along with several public representatives and senior officials.
