Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government has decided to abolish the Madarsa Board from July 1, 2026. Consequently, all madrasas operating under the Madarsa Board in the state will now have to operate under the Uttarakhand Minority Education Authority and obtain recognition from the Uttarakhand Education Board. In light of this, the Uttarakhand government has constituted the Minority Education Authority. Orders in this regard have been issued by Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate, Special Secretary of the Uttarakhand Minority Department.
Under this new system, the Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority has been constituted. Special Secretary Dr. Parag Madhukar Dhakate said that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, during the last assembly session, had announced the abolition of the Madarsa Board and stated that from July of this year, all minority institutions would be brought under the umbrella of the Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority and their recognition would be granted by the Uttarakhand Education Board.
Special Secretary Dr. Parag further informed that on the instructions of CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, Professor Vidwan has been nominated to this board, which will determine the educational curriculum for minority students. Educationists from all minority communities have been included in this board.
Appointments of office bearers in the Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority: Professor (Retd.) Surjit Singh Gandhi, BSM PG College, Roorkee, has been appointed as the Chairman. While Professor Dr. Rakesh Kumar Jain, Gurukul Kangri University (Haridwar), Dr. Syed Ali Hamid (Retd.) Professor Kumaon University (Almora), Prof. Pema Tenzin resident of Bagtoli, Gwaldam (Chamoli), Prof. Gurmeet Singh, KGK PG College Line Par (Moradabad), Dr. Elba Mandrele, Assistant Teacher, Late Chandra Singh Shahi Government PG College Kapkot (Bageshwar), Prof. Robina Aman, Head of Department and Convener Chemistry, Soban Singh University (Almora), Chandrashekhar Bhatt, Retired Secretary, Government of Uttarakhand and Rajendra Singh Bisht, Himalaya Gram Vikas Samiti Gangolihat (Pithoragarh) have been appointed as members. In addition, the Director General of School Education, Uttarakhand, and the Director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training, Uttarakhand, will be ex-officio members. The Director of Minority Welfare, Uttarakhand, will be the ex-officio Member Secretary.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that our government has decided to constitute the State Minority Education Authority. Our government had decided to abolish the Madrasa Board. Now this authority will decide what kind of education will be provided to minority children. This authority will determine the syllabus. All minority institutions will have to obtain recognition from the Uttarakhand Education Board.
