A modern city park will be built in place of the trenching ground; Chief Secretary directs preparation of a DPR

Dehradun: The trenching ground on Sahastradhara Road will soon be developed into a modern and well-equipped city park. Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan has given clear instructions to the MDDA to develop the site along the lines of a city forest park, providing a new, green, and organized public space for the city’s residents.

A presentation of the proposed layout of the Sahastradhara Trenching Ground Park was presented at a meeting held at the Secretariat. Reviewing the presentation, the Chief Secretary directed Municipal Corporation Commissioner Namami Bansal to ensure the prompt disposal of the garbage lying in the trenching ground. He stated that to proceed swiftly with the park’s construction, it is essential to first thoroughly clean and organize the area.

Secretary of Urban Development Nitesh Jha was also present at the meeting. The Chief Secretary stated that given the ever-increasing population and traffic pressure in Dehradun, the need for modern and well-organized parks has become greater than ever. Such parks will not only provide people with a clean environment and recreational opportunities, but will also play a vital role in maintaining the city’s environmental balance. The proposed park will be developed with many modern facilities to meet the needs of the general public.

These will include an open gym, jogging track, cycle track, multipurpose hall, volleyball and badminton courts, cafeteria, open theater, and dedicated areas for yoga and meditation. The aim is to make the park useful and attractive to people of all age groups. The Chief Secretary specifically directed that the use of cement and concrete be minimized in the park’s construction, so that the natural structure of the green area is maintained. He also emphasized the need for groundwater recharge and suggested that facilities such as water fountains be developed in a way that helps maintain groundwater levels. Instructions have also been given to seek the cooperation of the Pollution Control Board in this entire process to ensure complete compliance with environmental standards.

The Chief Secretary directed MDDA Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari to finalize the park’s layout expeditiously and prepare a detailed project report (DPR) to initiate further action. It’s clear that the government intends to pursue this project on a priority basis. If this plan is implemented on schedule, the Sahastradhara Trenching Ground, previously known as a garbage dump, could become a major green and modern public space in Dehradun in the future.
