Dehradun: The decision to hand over taxi operations at Dehradun Airport to a private company has fueled resentment among local taxi drivers. On Thursday, officials of the Dehradun Airport Taxi Union met Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and requested his intervention in the matter. The Chief Minister assured them of his support.
500 families facing livelihood crisis
Former union president Mahendra Prasad Bharti said that local drivers have been providing taxi services at Jolly Grant for years. Their livelihoods have depended on this since the runway was built until the airport was built. However, the recent transfer of taxi operations to a private company has created a job crisis for approximately 500 families.
“Locals are being deprived of their rights”
Union secretary Chandrakishore Uniyal said that it is wrong to replace local people and give the job to an outside company.
Committee patron Gulab Singh Kaintura and advisory committee member and councilor Ishwar Rauthan stated that the talks with the Chief Minister were positive and he assured a solution.
Talks were also held with the airport administration.
After meeting the Chief Minister, the delegation also held talks with the airport administration. The delegation included Sundar Singh Panwar, Vijay Singh Sindhwal, and other members.
