Tanakpur. The famous historic Maa Purnagiri Fair 2025 of North India was formally inaugurated on Friday. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached Tanakpur to inaugurate the fair and made several important announcements for the overall development of the region. He said efforts will be made to operate the Purnagiri fair throughout the year so that devotees receive continuous facilities and the local economy is strengthened.
Announcements of Multiple Development Works for the Fair
The Chief Minister announced the construction of a link road from Selagad to Kotkendri, beautification of various fair sites from Kaliguth to Purnagiri, construction of a motor road from Tamli via Rupaligarh to Seem, construction of a grand entrance gate in the fair area, improvement of the Manch-Lethi-Vamangaon-Tarkuli-Awada-Sem-Chuka route, and construction of roads and culverts in the internal Purnagiri area. He directed the district administration to begin the announced works on priority.
Target to Develop Champawat as a Spiritual and Tourism Hub
The Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand is Devbhoomi and every particle of its sacred land is filled with divinity. Praying for the prosperity of the state, he said the shrine will be equipped with permanent facilities and given a more grand and organized form in the future.
He added that the Purnagiri region will be connected to a broader tourism circuit, benefiting nearby religious and tourist destinations. This will help Champawat emerge as a major center of religious and adventure tourism and create employment opportunities for local residents.
Special Emphasis on Infrastructure and Education
He stated that Tanakpur Bus Station is being developed as an interstate bus terminal. Under the Manaskhand Mandir Mala Mission, beautification and widening of access roads to major temples in the Kumaon region are being carried out. Work is also in progress to strengthen communication facilities and construct a ropeway in the Purnagiri area.
He said a campus of Soban Singh Jeena University has been established in Champawat, where an information technology laboratory and a girls’ hostel have been constructed. A science center is also being built at the district headquarters to inspire students in science and innovation.
Construction of a Women’s Sports College in Lohaghat is ongoing, and the new building of the Polytechnic College has been completed. A special care unit for critical patients and an integrated nursing institute building have also been completed at the district hospital.
Clean and Well-Organized Fair is Our Priority
The Chief Minister said that it is the government’s responsibility to provide every devotee visiting the fair with a clean environment, drinking water, hygienic toilets, and better accommodation facilities. He assured the fair committee that arrangements in the fair area would be given top priority.
On this occasion, Member of Parliament and Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta, along with other public representatives, district administration officials, and a large number of devotees were present.
