Haridwar: Under the Dhami government’s zero-tolerance policy against illegal mining, major action has been taken in Uttarakhand. After a viral audio related to illegal mining surfaced, the entire staff posted at the Iqbalpur Police Outpost in the Jhabreda police station area has been suspended with immediate effect.
According to reports, taking the matter seriously, Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bhullar suspended six policemen, including the outpost in-charge. A detailed investigation into the matter has been assigned to SP Rural Shekhar Chand Suyal.
It is reported that an audio clip went viral on social media in which alleged discussions about transactions related to illegal mining and contact with the outpost in-charge were heard. In the audio, a policeman can allegedly be heard informing a miner over the phone to stop mining after receiving a complaint.
The audio created a stir within the police department. Acting on the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Haridwar Police took immediate action. During the preliminary investigation, the role of the policemen was found to be suspicious, following which the SSP suspended the entire staff including the outpost in-charge.
The SSP stated clearly that any activity that damages the image of the police will not be tolerated under any circumstances. An investigation team led by the SP Rural has been formed, which will soon submit its report.
