Gairsain: An interesting moment occurred during the Uttarakhand Assembly budget session when a remark about the Chief Minister’s height led to a light-hearted exchange in the House.
On the fifth day of the session, after Question Hour ended, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stood up to present his statement under Item-7. During this time, someone from the opposition said, “Please speak louder, we cannot hear you.”
Smiling, the Chief Minister replied, “What can I do if my height is greater?”
Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan also joked, saying “We will have to make the microphones taller.”
When more comments followed from the opposition, the Chief Minister responded in a poetic manner while recalling former Chief Minister Narayan Dutt Tiwari. He said:
“Though everyone who comes here is bigger than me,
my stature is not small either.”
After this witty reply, members across the House were seen smiling and the atmosphere became lighter.
Opposition Leaders Also Smiled
Following the Chief Minister’s response, leaders including Yashpal Arya, Qazi Nizamuddin, Harish Dhami, Vikram Negi, Ravi Bahadur, and Bhuvan Kapri were also seen smiling.
Statement on Good Governance
Later, Chief Minister Dhami spoke about the achievements of the state government. He said Uttarakhand has gained national recognition in financial management and good governance in recent years.
He said that in the Fiscal Health Index 2026 released by NITI Aayog, Uttarakhand secured second place among northeastern and Himalayan states.
The Chief Minister added that the state has performed well in revenue management, quality of expenditure, debt management, and fiscal discipline. He also said the government has followed the standards of the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act and maintained a revenue surplus.
