Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Delhi and requested early action on several key railway projects to strengthen connectivity in Uttarakhand.
He highlighted the importance of the state from strategic, geographical, cultural, and tourism perspectives.
Referring to the success of the Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), he requested its extension to Haridwar and Rishikesh to ease traffic pressure and improve connectivity to Char Dham and other tourist destinations.
He also requested:
- Completion of the first phase of the Rishikesh–Karnaprayag rail project by 2026
- Granting national project status to the Tanakpur–Bageshwar rail line
- Approval for final location survey of the Bageshwar–Karnaprayag project
- Doubling of the Haridwar–Dehradun rail line
- Early approval of Mohand–Dehradun–Saharanpur rail project
- Fast-tracking surveys for Char Dham rail connectivity
The Chief Minister also informed that preparations are underway for Kumbh Mela 2027, which is planned to be organized as a “Digital Kumbh” using modern technologies.
A proposal of ₹143.96 crore has been sent to the Ministry of Electronics and IT for this project.
