Dehradun: After recent incidents of road rage, firing and death of a retired Brigadier due to bullet in capital Dehradun, administration has become alert. Amid rising questions on law and order, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan held a meeting with senior officials of Home and Police Department in Secretariat and reviewed the situation.
In the meeting, the Chief Secretary expressed नाराजगी (anger) over increasing hooliganism and road rage incidents in the city. He gave strict instructions to police officials that immediate action should be taken in such cases and strict monitoring should be kept on anti-social elements.
Police patrolling will increase in peak hours
The Chief Secretary instructed that police patrolling should be increased in Dehradun and nearby areas. He said that especially during peak hours, patrolling system should be strengthened. Along with this, along with day-night patrolling, morning patrolling has also been told to increase.
He also gave instructions to strictly enforce rules of closing bars and restaurants at fixed time.
Strict action will be taken on weekends
The Chief Secretary said that during weekends, Dehradun will not be allowed to become center of party and hooliganism. Police has been instructed to take strict action against such elements. Apart from this, bar operators have also been instructed to ensure compliance of rules and close establishments on time.
He also said that strict action will be taken against bars violating rules or operating illegally.
Home stays will be monitored and mapped
Instructions have also been given to increase monitoring on home stays operating in city and nearby areas. The Chief Secretary said that mapping of all home stays should be done and it should be ensured that home stays made for purpose of promoting tourism are not misused.
Verification of tenants and PG residents
In the meeting, it was also said that after opening of Delhi–Dehradun Expressway, number of people coming to city on weekends will increase. In such situation, it is necessary to strengthen security system further.
Under this, instructions have also been given to run intensive verification campaign of tenants and people living in PG, so that action can be taken on suspicious activities in time.
