Dehradun: The Central Government has approved ₹461 crore for the treatment and repair work of landslide-affected sites in Uttarakhand. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude to Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and the Central Government for this important decision. Calling it a decision with long-term impact for the state, the Chief Minister said that it will strengthen the road infrastructure of the state and ensure the safety of passengers.
The Chief Minister informed that under this approval, ₹233 crore has been sanctioned for the treatment of 17 landslide-affected sites on National Highway-134 in Uttarkashi district. Similarly, ₹228 crore has been approved for the treatment of three sensitive sites on the Tawaghat-Ghatiabagarh stretch of National Highway-09 in Pithoragarh district. This initiative will reduce disaster risk and also make transportation easier in remote and border areas of the state.
The Chief Minister said that National Highway-134 is a major route of the Char Dham Yatra, which connects Dharasu and Kuthnori to Yamunotri Dham. This route has been highly sensitive to landslides, due to which traffic is often disrupted and passengers face difficulties. With the completion of the proposed works, the stability of this route will increase and the Char Dham Yatra will become safer and smoother. This will provide better facilities to religious tourists, nature lovers, and local residents.
He said that treatment of landslide-prone sites on the Tawaghat-Ghatiabagarh stretch of National Highway-09 will ensure uninterrupted connectivity to border areas. This will provide relief to local residents and will also prove important from a strategic point of view.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that through coordinated efforts of the Central and State Governments, work is continuously being done to strengthen the road network in Uttarakhand. This approval is an important step towards overall development of the state, promotion of tourism, and strengthening disaster management capacity.
