Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday inaugurated the 87th Inter-State Junior & Youth National Table Tennis Championship at the Multipurpose Sports Hall located at Parade Ground. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also played table tennis himself to encourage the players.
Welcoming players from across the country, the Chief Minister said it is a matter of pride for Uttarakhand that the state has got the opportunity to host this prestigious national competition for the first time. He also expressed gratitude to the Table Tennis Federation of India.
He said that sports are not just a medium of competition but a strong foundation for personality development. Sports help develop qualities like discipline, patience, teamwork, and dedication toward goals, which inspire youth to excel in every field.
Addressing the players, he said they represent not only their states but also the bright future of the country. Their hard work and determination will take India to new heights.
Describing table tennis as a game of speed, balance, technique, and mental strength, he said it enhances quick decision-making ability and confidence among players.
The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sports culture in the country has gained new direction. Campaigns like Khelo India and Fit India Movement have led to remarkable progress in sports and strengthened India’s global identity.
He added that the performance of Indian athletes in the Olympics, Paralympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games is a matter of pride. The state government is also committed to providing better facilities and promoting sports.
He further stated that after the successful आयोजन of the 38th National Games, Uttarakhand has gained recognition not only as Devbhoomi but also as a land of sports, where players won 103 medals, setting a new record.
Several dignitaries, including Cabinet Minister Khajan Das, Rajya Sabha MP Naresh Bansal, and others, were present on the occasion.
