Dehradun: A major step has been taken to strengthen disaster management in Uttarakhand. A successful trial of the Cell Broadcasting System has been conducted, which will enable immediate and accurate alerts to be sent to people during disasters.
The test was conducted nationwide, including Uttarakhand, on Saturday at 11:46 AM by the National Disaster Management Authority and C-DOT.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and the concerned agencies. He said this technology would prove to be a “boon” for a disaster-prone state like Uttarakhand.
How the system works:
Through this technology, alert messages can be sent simultaneously to mobile users in a specific area. This means that during a disaster, only people in the affected region will receive warnings, avoiding confusion and enabling timely preparedness.
Benefits during Char Dham Yatra and monsoon:
The Chief Minister said that this system will be widely used during the upcoming monsoon season and the Char Dham Yatra to ensure timely and accurate information for pilgrims and locals.
A result of the state’s efforts:
Uttarakhand had been making continuous efforts at the central level to implement this technology quickly. The state also provided technical feedback during the initial testing phase, leading to this significant progress.
A “game changer” in disaster management:
Disaster Management Minister Madan Kaushik called it a “game changer,” stating that it would ensure timely warnings reach the last person and help reduce loss of life during disasters. Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman added that alerts will now be automatically issued through mobile networks in affected areas, and all preparations at the state level have been completed.
Overall, this new technology is expected to make disaster management in Uttarakhand more effective, fast, and precise.
