Dehradun: Uttarakhand Police’s “Operation Prahar” is continuously underway to curb rising crime in the state. Director General of Police Deepam Seth reviewed the campaign at a high-level meeting on Thursday. The review was conducted through video conferencing with IGs of Garhwal and Kumaon ranges, senior superintendents of police of all districts, STF, and GRP officials.
Under the campaign, more than 1,400 wanted, absconding, and professional criminals have been arrested so far. Action has also been taken against 40 accused under the Gangster Act and more than 130 people under the Goonda Act.
Police also launched a major campaign against illegal weapons. A total of 66 illegal arms were recovered across the state. Udham Singh Nagar Police arrested Harendra Singh alias Honey and Nikhil Verma with a large quantity of illegal weapons and cartridges. According to police, their links were connected to cases associated with the terrorist organization “Al Badr.”
Meanwhile, the STF arrested Vikrant Kashyap from Dehradun with illegal pistols and cartridges. Investigation revealed his contacts with the Pakistani terrorist organization “Al Bark Brigade.”
Three Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in the state were also arrested with fake documents. Police took preventive action against more than 4,000 anti-social elements to maintain law and order in public places.
Strict action was also taken against traffic violations. More than 15,000 vehicles were challaned and over 2,000 vehicles were seized during campaigns against rash driving, drunk driving, fake number plates, and misuse of hooters.
During the operation, more than 18,000 bars, pubs, hotels, clubs, spas, and dhabas were inspected. Action was taken against more than 1,200 people for violating rules. In addition, more than 40,000 people were verified under the tenant verification campaign.
To prevent cyber fraud during the Char Dham Yatra, police also launched a special campaign. More than 200 fake social media links related to travel registration, helicopter tickets, and hotel bookings were blocked, while over 50 suspicious mobile numbers were deactivated. Cases were registered against 147 link operators and 27 fake mobile holders.
DGP Deepam Seth said that Uttarakhand Police is fully alert and committed to the safety of the state’s citizens. He added that “Operation Prahar” against crime and organized networks will continue more effectively in the future.
