Bhimtal: On World Environment Day, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated a lake beautification campaign by planting saplings around Bhimtal Lake. He said environmental conservation is not merely a government initiative but a broad movement that requires active public participation.
The Chief Minister described the plantation of bougainvillea along the lake’s banks as an innovative and commendable initiative. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “One Tree in Mother’s Name” campaign, he planted a bougainvillea sapling in honor of his mother, Bisna Devi.
He said Uttarakhand’s culture, traditions, and way of life have always been closely linked to nature conservation and environmental stewardship. World Environment Day serves as a reminder of humanity’s responsibility toward protecting the environment.
CM Dhami highlighted that Nainital district enjoys global recognition because of its lakes and attracts a large number of domestic and international tourists every year. Therefore, conservation and beautification of these lakes remain among the government’s key priorities.
As part of the campaign, bougainvillea and other flowering plants are being planted along the lakefront to further enhance the area’s scenic beauty and tourist appeal.
He urged citizens to plant more trees during the monsoon season, conserve water sources, keep rivers and public places clean, and reduce plastic usage. He stressed that collective action is the need of the hour for effective environmental protection.
Urban Development, Environment Protection and Climate Change Minister Ram Singh Kaida also planted a sapling in memory of his late mother Revati Devi. Several senior officials, including Deepak Rawat, Lalit Mohan Rayal, Tejaswini Arvind Patil, Arvind Kumar Pandey, and Nitish Mani Tripathi, also planted saplings in their mothers’ names during the event.
The program was attended by public representatives, environmental enthusiasts, government officials, and a large number of local residents.
