Uttarakhand Launches SIR Drive; CM Dhami Says Eligible Voters Will Be Included, Ineligible Names Removed

Dehradun: Uttarakhand has launched the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign to update and improve the accuracy of the state’s electoral rolls. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the objective of the exercise is to ensure that only eligible citizens are included in the voter list while ineligible entries are removed.

During a program held at the Secretariat on Monday, Chief Electoral Officer Dr. B.V.R.C. Purushottam handed over the enumeration form to the Chief Minister. CM Dhami also completed the required formalities himself and described the campaign as an important initiative.

The Chief Minister said the special revision process will help identify genuine and eligible voters. He stated that individuals who do not have a legal connection with the state or do not meet the prescribed eligibility criteria will be removed from the voter list in accordance with the rules. Entries relating to deceased persons or those that have become irrelevant for other reasons will also be deleted, making the electoral rolls more transparent and reliable.

According to the Election Department, 11,733 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been deployed across the state for the campaign. These officials will visit households, assist voters in filling out enumeration forms, and update the information digitally.

Focus on Religious Tourism and Upcoming Events

During the event, CM Dhami also highlighted the increasing religious and tourism activities in Uttarakhand. He noted that a large number of pilgrims are visiting prominent religious destinations, including:

  • Char Dham
  • Adi Kailash
  • Jageshwar
  • Purnagiri Temple
  • Kainchi Dham

He said the growing number of visitors is benefiting both the local economy and the tourism sector.

The Chief Minister added that the government is also focusing on preparations for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra and the proposed Haridwar Kumbh Mela next year to ensure safe and well-organized arrangements for devotees.
