Dehradun: Former General Secretary of the Government Teachers’ Association, Sohan Singh Majila, met Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and raised several issues and pending demands concerning teachers across the state. During the meeting, he highlighted matters related to teacher promotions, transfers, the mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), and other important concerns.
Majila stated that during the summer vacation, he interacted with teachers in the districts of Nainital, Almora, Pithoragarh, and Dehradun. During these discussions, many teachers expressed concerns regarding delays in promotions, the need for a simpler transfer process, and the removal of the TET requirement for teachers working in the LT cadre.
Demands Presented Before the Chief Minister
Majila urged the Chief Minister to remove obstacles in the promotion process and suggested that, if necessary, an ordinance be introduced to facilitate promotions. He also requested the initiation of a request-based transfer system within the Education Department and the early release of the pending list under Section 27.
In addition, he proposed granting school teachers a five-year relaxation in the upper age limit for competitive examinations, similar to provisions available in Uttar Pradesh. According to him, such a measure would provide teachers with better opportunities for career advancement.
He further emphasized that the mandatory TET requirement should not become a barrier to any teacher’s service conditions or promotion prospects and that a practical solution should be found.
CM Dhami Assures Discussion and Action
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami listened carefully to the concerns raised by the teachers’ representative and assured him that a meeting with representatives of teacher organizations would be organized soon. He stated that all major demands would be discussed in detail and that necessary steps would be taken toward finding appropriate solutions.
