Dehradun: The benefits of the Uttarakhand Film Policy-2024 are now becoming visible on the ground. For the first time, the state government has provided scholarships to three youths pursuing higher education in the field of film and television. The government believes this will help talented youth from the state gain recognition at the national level.
The Uttarakhand Film Development Council has released scholarships for three students who completed their studies at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. This assistance has been provided under the Uttarakhand Film Policy-2024, which aims to promote film production and media education in the state.
According to Banshidhar Tiwari, Chief Executive Officer of the Film Development Council, Praveen Semwal from Ukhimath in Rudraprayag received ₹65,682 for a one-year postgraduate certificate course. Kavita from Harni (Mundoli) in Chamoli received ₹1,27,619 for a two-year postgraduate diploma course, and Devesh Bhatt from Tallital in Nainital received ₹1,38,990 for a three-year postgraduate diploma course.
As per the film policy, permanent residents of Uttarakhand studying at FTII Pune, Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute Kolkata, and other reputed institutions are given scholarships on a merit basis after completing their courses. The scheme provides financial assistance covering up to 75% of course expenses for students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes, and up to 50% for general category students.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that there is no shortage of creative talent among the youth of Uttarakhand. The state government aims to provide better opportunities for them to enhance their skills and gain national recognition. He added that the Uttarakhand Film Policy-2024 has been designed with this objective to offer financial support to youth pursuing careers in film and media.
