Haridwar: Preparations for the upcoming Kanwar Mela have gathered pace, with the police forces of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh strengthening coordination. Senior officials from Haridwar and Bijnor police held an inter-state coordination meeting on Sunday to finalize a joint strategy for security, traffic management, and crowd control during the annual pilgrimage.
The meeting, held at Pinaka Hotel in the Shyampur area, focused on the movement of heavy vehicles, regulations governing DJ systems, major traffic diversion points, border checkpoints, wireless communication, and rapid coordination during emergencies. Officials also jointly inspected the Kanwar Yatra route and other sensitive locations, issuing necessary operational guidelines.
According to police officials, more than 40 million (four crore) devotees are expected to participate in this year’s Kanwar Mela. In view of the massive turnout, seamless coordination between the Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh police has been given top priority to ensure that the pilgrimage remains safe, smooth, and well-organized.
Haridwar City SP Abhay Singh said all necessary preparations are being made to ensure the fair is conducted peacefully and securely. He added that close coordination with Uttar Pradesh Police would further strengthen security arrangements and traffic management during the event.
The meeting was attended by Haridwar SP (Traffic) Nisha Yadav, Bijnor Additional Superintendent of Police Gautam Rai, Haridwar City CO Shishupal Singh Negi, Najibabad CO Akanksha Gautam, Haridwar Traffic CO Bhupendra Singh, Shyampur SHO Nitesh Sharma, and other senior police officers from both states. At the conclusion of the meeting, Haridwar Police presented holy Ganga water to the visiting Bijnor Police officials as a gesture of goodwill.
