Dehradun: Uttarakhand Police has intensified preparations for the Kanwar Mela 2026, which will begin in Haridwar on July 30. On Wednesday, a high-level review meeting was held at the Police Headquarters under the chairmanship of DGP Deepam Seth, where a detailed strategy was prepared regarding security, traffic management, technical surveillance, and interstate coordination. Senior officials from districts associated with the Kanwar Yatra participated in the meeting through video conferencing.
The DGP directed that the entire Kanwar Mela area should be monitored round the clock through drones and CCTV cameras. For security arrangements, the ATS, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), STF, SDRF, and intelligence units will be deployed at key locations. A special team of cyber commandos will also continuously monitor social media and cyberspace to ensure immediate action against any rumours or objectionable content.
During the meeting, instructions were issued to deploy additional police personnel, women police officers, and Rapid Response Teams in sensitive areas. SDRF teams and divers have also been directed to remain on alert at major bathing ghats to ensure immediate rescue and relief operations in case of any emergency.
The DGP instructed officials to prepare a detailed traffic management plan covering the Kanwar Yatra route, national highways, alternate routes, parking areas, holding areas, and diversions. He said that the plan should be widely publicised not only in Uttarakhand but also in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, and other neighbouring states so that devotees are informed about the traffic arrangements in advance.
Special security arrangements will also be implemented in railway areas. Instructions have been issued to the GRP to deploy police personnel by dividing railway stations, platforms, foot overbridges, and trains into super zones, zones, and sectors for effective crowd management. Emphasis has also been laid on fire safety audits, mobile patrolling, the establishment of temporary police posts, and keeping contingency plans ready.
DGP Deepam Seth instructed officials to ensure respectful behaviour with devotees and to take immediate and strict action against elements attempting to disturb law and order, spread rumours, or disrupt communal harmony. He said that Uttarakhand Police is fully committed to ensuring the safe and successful conduct of Kanwar Mela 2026 with complete vigilance, coordination, and a spirit of service.
