Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that science, technology, and innovation are the foundation of a developed Uttarakhand. He stated that the state government is continuously working to make Uttarakhand a leading hub for research, innovation, and modern technology. Emphasizing the need to bring science closer to people’s daily lives, he said it should not remain confined to laboratories.
Addressing the “Mainstreaming Science, Technology and Innovation for a Prosperous Uttarakhand” programme at the IRDT Auditorium, the Chief Minister said that global progress today is driven by knowledge, research, and technological innovation. Technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, drones, and semiconductors are transforming sectors including healthcare, education, agriculture, tourism, and disaster management.
Dhami announced that the state has implemented Uttarakhand’s first Science, Technology and Innovation Policy. He also said that the construction of the country’s fifth Science City in Dehradun is progressing rapidly. Once operational, school students from across Uttarakhand will be taken on regular educational visits to the facility to encourage scientific thinking and foster a spirit of innovation.
He added that the government is strengthening the state’s Science and Innovation Centres, STEM laboratories, Labs on Wheels, digital libraries, patent information centres, and startup ecosystem. The government’s objective, he said, is to empower young people to become job creators rather than job seekers.
Calling upon scientists, academicians, researchers, and industry leaders to integrate science and technology into the mainstream of development, the Chief Minister said that Uttarakhand would earn global recognition not only as the Land of the Gods (Devbhoomi), Land of the Brave (Veerbhoomi), and Land of Sports, but also as a land of science and innovation.
