Nainital: The Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign to verify the electoral roll is progressing rapidly across Uttarakhand. As part of the exercise, SIR notices have also been issued to several prominent citizens, including Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat and Nainital MLA Sarita Arya.
A notice delivered to MLA Sarita Arya’s residence requested the required information from her and her younger son as part of the verification process. A similar notice was also served at the residence of Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat. The Election Department clarified that this is a routine verification exercise and applies equally to all eligible voters.
Nainital Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nawazish Khalik said hearings have begun on claims and objections received under the SIR process in the Assembly constituency. Most cases involve corrections to names and addresses, and the concerned individuals have been asked to submit the necessary documents.
He said the process of submitting Form 6 (new voter registration), Form 7 (objections for deletion of names), and Form 8 (corrections to name, address, or other details) will continue from July 14 to August 13.
According to Additional Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Kumar Jogdande, discrepancies have been identified in the records of nearly 1.9 million voters across the state, and notices are being issued in phases. Verification of around 526,000 voters is still pending, with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) conducting door-to-door verification.
The Election Department said the objective of the campaign is to prepare a completely accurate, updated, and error-free electoral roll so that no eligible voter is deprived of the right to vote.
