Pithoragarh: The Uttarakhand Police has dismissed suspended constable Sher Singh, who had publicly announced his resignation while wearing his police uniform during a student protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. The action followed a departmental inquiry that found him guilty of violating the Uttarakhand Police Act, 2007, and the Uttarakhand Government Servants Conduct Rules, 2002.
Pithoragarh Superintendent of Police Akshay Prahlad Konde issued the dismissal order, stating that Sher Singh’s conduct amounted to serious misconduct and had undermined the discipline of the police force as well as public confidence in the institution.
According to officials, Sher Singh was already under suspension when he attended the student protest in Delhi. Wearing his police uniform, he took the stage and announced his resignation during a speech. After videos of the incident surfaced, the Uttarakhand Police initiated a departmental investigation.
Kumaon Range Inspector General Nivedita Kukreti said Sher Singh had been absent from duty since June 28, 2026. After he failed to respond to official notices, he was suspended on July 20, 2026. Following the completion of the departmental inquiry, he has now been dismissed from service.
The police department clarified that Sher Singh is no longer an employee of the Uttarakhand Police. Any future participation by him in protests, political programmes, or other activities will be in his personal capacity, and the department will bear no responsibility for his actions.
Police officials also stated that Sher Singh already faces criminal charges. A case registered at Gangnahar Police Station in Haridwar, related to a land encroachment dispute, includes charges of murder, attempted murder, extortion, and other serious offences. He was arrested in September 2025 in connection with the case and later released on bail.
