Dehradun: In view of persistent rainfall across Uttarakhand and warnings issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the state’s preparedness over the phone with Vinod Kumar Suman, Secretary of the Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Department. He directed all disaster management and relief agencies to remain on high alert and maintain full preparedness.
The Chief Minister instructed the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), district administrations, police, fire services, health department, and other concerned agencies to work in close coordination and launch immediate relief and rescue operations whenever required.
He also directed officials to continuously monitor vulnerable areas, keep a close watch on river and stream water levels, and evacuate people to safer locations if necessary.
The Chief Minister instructed all District Magistrates to keep District Emergency Operations Centres functional round the clock and ensure prompt action in response to every incident. He reiterated that preventing loss of life remains the government’s highest priority.
Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman said the IMD has issued an Orange Alert for Dehradun, Chamoli, and Bageshwar for Thursday, while Yellow Alerts remain in effect for all other districts. With forecasts of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds at several locations, all departments have been placed on alert.
He appealed to residents and tourists to follow official weather advisories, avoid unnecessary travel, check weather and road conditions before undertaking journeys, and rely only on information issued by the authorities.
