Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Monday inspected the reconstruction work on the approach road of Nanda Ki Chowki Bridge in Premnagar while returning from a Women’s Dialogue and Felicitation Programme held in Bhaowala, Sahaspur. The Chief Minister visited the site and reviewed the quality of construction, safety arrangements and the status of traffic movement.
The Chief Minister sought information from officials about the progress of the reconstruction work and its technical aspects. He directed officials to ensure strict compliance with quality standards during the construction work.
The approach road of Nanda Ki Chowki Bridge was damaged following heavy rainfall on July 28. Notably, the bridge had been inaugurated just 16 days before it was damaged. The bridge had been constructed at a cost of around ₹16 crore, and questions were raised over the approach road being damaged within such a short period.
Following the damage to the approach road, the state government directed the concerned departments to immediately begin relief and reconstruction work. Officials and engineers worked rapidly and completed reconstruction of the approach road in around 12 hours, after which traffic movement was restored to normal.
The Chief Minister appreciated the prompt efforts of the officials, engineers and staff involved in the reconstruction work. He also directed them to exercise special caution regarding construction quality and safety.
Action has also been taken by the government following an inquiry into the matter. The licence of the construction agency was suspended, and action was also taken against the officials concerned. Following the damage to the approach road, the issue also triggered intensified political allegations and counter-allegations. Against this backdrop, the Chief Minister’s visit to the site and inspection is being viewed as a sign of the government’s seriousness regarding the matter.
