Haridwar: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day programme organised at Prem Nagar Ashram in Haridwar. The programme was organised by the Uttaranchal Punjabi Mahasabha. MP and former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Kalpana Saini, Ministers Pradeep Batra and Madan Kaushik, Mayor Kiran Jaisal, and a large number of members of the Punjabi community were present.
The Chief Minister and other guests were welcomed by being presented with traditional turbans. Tributes were paid to the Indians who lost their lives in the tragedy of Partition. Patriotic and cultural performances were also presented during the programme.
Targets Congress Over ‘Purification’ Controversy
During the programme, Chief Minister Dhami targeted the Congress over the alleged ‘purification’ of the ground following Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s public meeting in Haldwani. He alleged that the Congress was playing the “victim card” for political gains and said that this narrative would not last for long.
The Chief Minister said that Mallikarjun Kharge is one of the respected leaders of the country and that no one could even think of insulting him in Uttarakhand. He accused the Congress of giving a political colour to the matter and said that the people of Uttarakhand and the country understand the attempts being made by playing the Dalit card.
Referring to the Congress’s political history, Dhami alleged that the party had also treated its own leaders, such as Babu Jagjivan Ram and Sitaram Kesri, disrespectfully. He further alleged that the Congress did not give Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar due respect for a long time.
Dhami and Trivendra Seen Together on One Stage
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Haridwar MP and former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat were seen together on the stage at the programme in Haridwar. Both leaders also addressed the gathering. A large number of BJP office-bearers from across the state and members of the Punjabi community were present.
