Dehradun: Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan held a review meeting of the Medical Health and Family Welfare and Medical Education departments at the Secretariat on Tuesday. He directed officials to take time-bound action to improve the quality of healthcare services in the state and provide better treatment to the general public.
The Chief Secretary directed all district hospitals and major sub-district hospitals in the state to obtain NABH accreditation by March 31, 2027. He instructed officials to begin the process immediately so that hospitals can meet the prescribed standards within the stipulated timeframe.
He directed officials to accelerate the digitisation of hospitals and implementation of the e-Hospital system, and to immediately introduce an integrated health management system. Officials were instructed to ensure staff training, technical support and annual maintenance arrangements for the system.
Emphasising the need to fill vacant posts of doctors at the earliest, the Chief Secretary also directed officials to explore the possibility of engaging retired doctors and bringing specialists from private hospitals on board as visiting doctors.
Instructions were issued to operate dialysis services at government hospitals 24 hours a day. It was also directed that kidney transplant services be started within the next three months. The meeting was informed that the necessary infrastructure and specialist arrangements for the facility have already been put in place.
The Chief Secretary also directed officials to simplify the process of issuing birth and death certificates. He said parents should not have to make unnecessary visits to government offices to obtain birth certificates, nor should families face such difficulties for death certificates. He also emphasised bringing more public services under the Right to Service Act.
Instructions were also issued to ensure adequate faculty in medical colleges, improve ward facilities and strengthen super-speciality services. The Chief Secretary also directed that evening OPDs be introduced so that more people can benefit from healthcare facilities.
