Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has emphasised providing better global employment opportunities to the youth of Uttarakhand. He directed officials to obtain information from Indian missions about sectors in foreign countries where the demand for skilled manpower is high and provide young people with skill and language training accordingly.
The Chief Minister met Mayank Joshi, Ambassador of India to Jamaica; Devesh Uttam, Ambassador of India to Ethiopia; and Alok Ranjan Jha, High Commissioner of India to Zambia, at the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday. During the meeting, employment opportunities and the demand for skilled manpower in the three countries were discussed.
Employment opportunities in Zambia were highlighted in the fields of education and agriculture, while Jamaica has a demand for trained personnel in tourism, healthcare, agriculture and, particularly, nursing. In Ethiopia, opportunities are available in management, logistics, pharmaceuticals and floriculture.
The Chief Minister said the youth of Uttarakhand had no shortage of talent or ability. With need-based training, they could be connected to employment opportunities available overseas. Officials have been directed to assess the requirements of different countries and prepare an effective action plan.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need to promote the international potential of Uttarakhand’s homestays, pharmaceutical industry, other industries, Ayurveda, and health and wellness sectors. He said regular coordination would be maintained with Indian missions to connect the state’s youth with the global employment market.
