Dehradun: Gabar Singh Bisht, headmaster of Government Upper Primary School Musyakhand in a remote area of Pauri district, has been honoured with the National Teachers’ Award 2026 for his contribution to promoting education in difficult circumstances. President Droupadi Murmu presented him with the prestigious award at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
Gabar Singh Bisht has been serving at the school since 2003. Despite limited resources and challenging geographical conditions, he has continuously introduced innovative methods to make teaching more modern and effective. Along with simplifying the teaching of subjects such as mathematics and science, he has also prepared students for competitive examinations and other academic activities.
To promote digital education at the school, he introduced e-content, presentations, projectors, digital boards and online learning platforms. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the school remained closed, he played an important role in ensuring that students continued their studies through online modes.
Gabar Singh Bisht is the only teacher from Uttarakhand to receive the National Teachers’ Award this year in the field of school education. He has previously been honoured with the Governor’s Award and the Shailesh Matiyani State Educational Award.
Chief Education Officer of Pauri Atresh Sayana congratulated him and said that Gabar Singh Bisht’s dedication to education while working in a remote area is an inspiration to other teachers. He said Bisht’s achievement is also a source of motivation for teachers working in difficult circumstances.
Gabar Singh Bisht’s achievement is a matter of pride not only for Pauri but for the entire state of Uttarakhand. He has demonstrated that even with limited resources, dedication, hard work and innovation can bring about significant change in the field of education.
