Dehradun: Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in Uttarakhand continues to show steady improvement. In August of the financial year 2026–27, the state collected ₹920 crore in GST revenue, marking a 16% increase over the ₹780 crore collected during the same month of the previous financial year.
More than 2.15 lakh traders and firms are registered under GST in the state. The government has set a revenue collection target of ₹12,200 crore for the financial year 2026–27. To achieve the target, the State Tax Department is analysing GST returns, e-way bills and actual business transaction data and taking action against those involved in tax evasion.
However, the collection of Integrated GST (IGST) declined in August due to changes in tax rates on various goods made by the GST Council. Uttarakhand had received ₹340 crore in IGST during August of the financial year 2025–26.
Department Keeps Watch on Fake Firms
The number of traders and firms registered under GST has been increasing steadily. However, departmental investigations have also uncovered cases in which firms that were not actually conducting business were fraudulently registered to facilitate tax evasion.
Through such firms, several traders allegedly show purchases of goods and claim Input Tax Credit (ITC), causing revenue losses to the government.
State Tax Commissioner Prateek Jain said that GST collection increased by 16% in August. He added that continuous action is being taken against tax evaders and efforts are also underway to recover outstanding taxes.
