Dehradun: With the objective of increasing revenue collection and strengthening the financial system in Uttarakhand, the Finance Department has proposed the implementation of a World Bank-assisted SPFM project. A World Bank delegation visiting Uttarakhand in connection with preparations for the project met Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan on Friday and gave a presentation on the progress and future action plan.
Representatives of the World Bank said that, as part of the project preparations, consultations had been held with various revenue-generating departments and institutions of the state. These include the State Tax Department, Stamps and Registration Department, Directorate of Treasuries, Audit Department, Forest Development Corporation and other organisations under the control of the state government.
Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan said that all revenue-generating departments have been directed to obtain, through the SPFM project, whatever technical, institutional or other assistance is required to increase revenue. He said that the objective of the project is not merely to increase revenue collection but also to make the state’s financial system more capable, transparent and effective.
Digital Innovation to Also Remain a Focus
The Chief Secretary said that along with increasing revenue, digital innovation should also be given priority under the project. Emphasis should be placed on simplifying and streamlining government services and processes through modern technology so that the public can benefit directly. He directed officials to advance the objectives of the project within a defined timeframe through better coordination among departments.
The meeting discussed various aspects related to strengthening the state’s revenue potential, improving financial management and effectively using digital systems. World Bank representatives briefed the Chief Secretary on the preparations for the project and the proposed future course of action.
Those present at the meeting from the World Bank included S. Krishnamurthy, Arvind Kumar, Anand and Vikas. From the project side, Project Director Navneet Pandey, Additional Project Director P.C. Khare and Bhavtosh Bhatt were present.
