Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday inaugurated Jal Srishti Park in Miyanwala, developed at a cost of approximately ₹8.64 crore. Developed by the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority under the Chief Minister’s announcement, the park combines the revival of an old pond with natural beauty and modern facilities. An island created in the middle of the pond and pedal boating facilities are among the park’s major attractions.
The Chief Minister said that Jal Srishti Park is an important step towards the vision of a clean, healthy and green Dehradun. He said that conserving old ponds and water sources is not merely an effort to protect the environment, but also a responsibility to preserve heritage and secure the future of coming generations.
New Development Facility for the Raipur Area
The Chief Minister said that facilities have been developed in the park for people of all age groups, including children, young people, women and senior citizens. These include a jogging track, yoga deck, children’s play area, a garden providing information about flowers and plants, green spaces and seating arrangements. The island in the middle of the pond and pedal boating facilities add to the park’s appeal.
The Chief Minister said that instead of allowing the old pond to disappear, it had been revived and the area given a new identity. This will provide residents of the Raipur area with recreational and health-related facilities amid a natural environment within Dehradun itself.
Emphasis on Environmental Conservation Alongside Development
The Chief Minister said that development does not simply mean creating concrete structures. Real development is one that makes people’s lives easier, makes cities more beautiful and protects the environment. He said the state government is committed to moving forward by maintaining a balance between development and environmental protection.
He said Dehradun is known for its greenery and natural beauty. While expanding modern facilities, it is also important to preserve the city’s natural identity. Conservation of water sources is an important part of this approach.
Several Development Works Accelerated in the Raipur Area
The Chief Minister said that work related to roads, drinking water, health, education, parks, sewerage and flood protection is being accelerated in the Raipur area. Work is underway on road surfacing, renovation and widening, along with improvements to the sewerage system. New tube wells and overhead tanks have been constructed for drinking-water supply, while work is also being carried out to replace old pipelines and lay new water-supply lines.
He said that construction and beautification of parks in various parts of the area, along with improvements in road connectivity, are also being taken forward. To provide relief from waterlogging and flooding during the monsoon, protection and channelisation works are being carried out on rivers and seasonal streams.
Saung Dam to Strengthen Drinking-Water Supply
The Chief Minister said that the demand for drinking water is increasing along with Dehradun’s growing population. Keeping this in view, work on important projects such as the Saung Dam is being taken forward. The project will help strengthen Dehradun’s drinking-water supply system in the future.
Everyone’s Responsibility to Keep the Park Clean
The Chief Minister appealed to local residents to consider the park their own and help keep it clean and beautiful. He said that while the government can construct the park and provide facilities, maintaining its cleanliness and beauty over the long term is a shared responsibility of society.
He urged children and young people to make maximum use of the park and spend time engaging in sports, yoga and activities amid nature. He also appealed to people to cooperate in maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the park and water body.
The Chief Minister said that Jal Srishti Park is an example of bringing together environmental conservation, revival of water sources, health, recreation and natural beauty. He expressed confidence that in the coming years, the park would become a major attraction not only for the Raipur area but for people across Dehradun.
MLA Umesh Sharma Kau, Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal, MDDA Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari, other officials and a large number of local residents were present at the programme.
