Hoshiarpur: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab over the issue of drug addiction. Addressing public gatherings during the BJP’s ‘Nasha-Mukt Punjab Yatra’ at Gardhiwala, Dasuya, and Nangal Bihalan in Hoshiarpur district, he alleged that drug abuse has taken a grave turn in Punjab, with drug traffickers operating boldly due to the alleged failure of the state government and police force.
Dhami asserted that the BJP will restore Punjab’s lost pride and work toward transforming it into an ‘Ubharta Punjab’ (Rising Punjab). He outlined the BJP’s five-pronged strategy against drugs, which includes strict action against traffickers, dismantling the entire supply chain, seizing financial assets and networks of drug cartels, rehabilitating affected youth, and integrating all sections of society into the campaign.
Transforming Anti-Drug Drive into a Mass Movement
Dhami stated that the ‘Nasha-Mukt Punjab Yatra’ is not a political event to seek votes, but an effort to save Punjab’s youth from drug addiction and turn the initiative into a public movement. He remarked that the youth of Punjab are not consumers of drugs, but the future of the nation, calling upon them to channel their energy into society, economy, sports, and nation-building.
Addressing Families Affected by Drug Abuse
Dhami shared that he met several families who lost their children to drug addiction, noting that the pain of mothers who have lost young sons highlights the severity of the crisis. He stressed that continuous and coordinated efforts are required to overcome the issue.
Questioning AAP Government’s Unfulfilled Promises
The Chief Minister alleged that the AAP government had promised to eliminate the drug menace within a few months, but the promised timeframe has long passed. Reiterating Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resolve to make Punjab drug-free, Dhami appealed to the public to support the effort.
