Dehradun: In a major step toward enhancing power generation and energy storage capacity in Uttarakhand, UJVN Limited has taken a significant initiative. The corporation’s board of directors has approved the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the 600 MW Ichari Pumped Storage Project. Additionally, the electro-mechanical works for the 300 MW Lakhwar Multipurpose Project have also received approval. These decisions pave the way for advancing key energy sector projects in the state.
The 136th meeting of the Board of Directors of UJVN Limited was held at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary and Corporation Chairman Anand Bardhan. During the meeting, decisions were taken after discussing several proposals related to project development, financial management, employee welfare, and information security.
Corporation Managing Director Ajay Kumar Singh stated that continuous efforts are being made to meet the state’s future energy requirements and enhance power generation capacity. The Ichari Pumped Storage Project is expected to help supply electricity during peak demand hours. According to the corporation, the project is estimated to generate approximately 1,246 million units of electricity annually during peak hours. Under the pumped storage technology, surplus electricity during low-demand periods is used to pump water to an upper reservoir. When electricity demand increases, the water is released downward to generate power through turbines. This technology helps make better use of surplus electricity and maintain a balance between demand and supply.
The meeting also approved the proposal regarding the electro-mechanical works of the Lakhwar Multipurpose Project. Furthermore, the proposal for preparing tenders for various hydro-mechanical works of the project was granted approval. These decisions are expected to accelerate upcoming project activities.
The Board of Directors also approved a proposal related to ex-gratia compensation for employees not covered under the pension scheme. Additionally, the appointment of a statutory auditor for the financial year 2026-27, the cost audit report for the financial year 2025-26, and the corporation’s information and cyber security policy were also approved.
Principal Secretary Energy R. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary Finance Dilip Jawalkar, Independent Directors Indu Kumar Pandey and Parag Gupta, Managing Director Ajay Kumar Singh, Director Operations G.S. Budiyal, Executive Director Sudhakar Badoni, and Ashish Kumar Jain, among other senior officials, were present at the meeting.
