Dehradun: Two youths from Uttarakhand included in the first batch of Agniveers retiring from the Indian Army in November 2026 will get the opportunity to serve in the state. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved the proposal to adjust both Agniveers against available vacant posts in the 40th Battalion of the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC). Following this decision, these youths will get the opportunity to contribute to the state’s security apparatus after completing their military service.
A letter sent by the Joint Secretary to the Government of India informed that the first batch of Agniveers recruited into the Indian Army under the Agnipath scheme will be discharged in November 2026. In line with this, a proposal to absorb two Agniveers from Uttarakhand against available vacant posts in the 40th Battalion PAC was placed before the state government. The Chief Minister has granted approval to this proposal.
State to Benefit from Military Experience
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the Agnipath scheme, launched under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is strengthening the spirit of discipline, national service, and devotion to duty among the youth. The skills, experience, and discipline acquired by Agniveers during their army service constitute an invaluable asset for the nation.
He stated that the state government respects the contributions and capabilities of Agniveers. The government aims to ensure that youths who have served the nation get an opportunity to serve the state, allowing the state to benefit from their military experience and efficiency.
Employment Arrangements for Agniveers
The Uttarakhand government has also taken steps for the rehabilitation and employment of discharged Agniveers. A 10 percent horizontal reservation has been provided for Agniveers in Group ‘C’ uniformed posts in the state. Additionally, approval has been granted for the setup of an Agniveer Employment Cell.
Through this cell, efforts will be made to provide information on employment opportunities matched to their qualifications and skills, guidance related to government schemes, and necessary support to youths returning after completing army service.
This decision of the government is considered an important step toward utilizing the military training and experience of Agniveers in the state’s security framework.
