Champawat: Political activity has begun intensifying in Uttarakhand ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. Meanwhile, Geeta Dhami, wife of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, highlighted the government’s achievements during a Sawan festival programme in Champawat and raised issues related to land encroachment, religious conversion and alleged “love jihad.”
Addressing women at the programme organised by the Seva Sankalp Foundation, Geeta Dhami said that rules and laws are necessary in society. Referring to the Uniform Civil Code, she said that steps have been taken through it towards ensuring equal rights for daughters. She also mentioned the government’s efforts to free government land from encroachment and the verification drives being conducted across the state.
Geeta Dhami said that verification drives are being conducted in various parts of the state. She alleged that some people were living in the state while concealing their identities and were involved in illegal activities. She said such cases were being identified through verification drives and that action would be taken according to the law.
She also listed action taken under the anti-conversion law and against illegal madrasas among the government’s achievements. Geeta Dhami said the government’s objective is to preserve the culture, identity and security of the state.
During the programme, she referred to the work being carried out in the state under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and said that the government was working towards creating a safer and better Uttarakhand for future generations. She appealed to residents of the state to remain aware and fulfil their responsibilities in the larger social interest.
It is worth noting that Assembly elections are scheduled to be held in Uttarakhand in 2027. Against this backdrop, political parties are becoming increasingly active among the public to highlight their policies and the work of the government.
