Dehradun: During the Uttarakhand Assembly’s budget session, discussions regarding a population control law have intensified. During the session at the Bharadisain Assembly building in Gairsain, BJP MLA Shiv Arora proposed a population control law in the state under Rule 300.
Responding to the proposal, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the state government has already implemented the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand and positive results are emerging from it.
He stated that many social issues are connected with public sentiments and the government respects the views and suggestions of all sections of society.
The Chief Minister added that different sections of society have varying opinions regarding a population control law. The government will study the suggestions and the prevailing circumstances, and if required in the future, it may consider taking steps in this direction.
He emphasized that the state government’s objective is to ensure balanced development in Uttarakhand. Decisions are taken by considering social, economic, and administrative aspects, and population-related issues will also be viewed from the same broader perspective.
Meanwhile, on the fifth day of the Assembly session, Congress MLAs protested on the steps of the Assembly regarding the availability of LPG gas. Congress alleged that there is a shortage of gas cylinders in the state and that the government is trying to suppress the issue. They also accused the government of failing to stop black marketing of LPG.
Responding to the allegations, Chief Minister Dhami clarified that there is no shortage of gas in the state and people do not need to panic. He said that clear instructions have been given to the administration to maintain smooth supply and take strict action against those involved in black marketing.
He also appealed to people not to pay attention to rumors and to inform the administration if any problem arises so that timely action can be taken.
