Haridwar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Haridwar on March 7. During the visit, he will hand over Indian citizenship certificates to five individuals under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) at a special program. After receiving the certificates, all five individuals will officially become citizens of India.
During the event, the Home Minister will also review the work carried out by the state government. Census Director Eva Ashish Srivastava stated that the names of the five selected individuals have already been forwarded to the state government.
According to the Census Directorate, over the past year, 162 people who migrated from Pakistan and Afghanistan have been granted Indian citizenship under the CAA. Most of them had arrived in India during the 1990s or between 2000 and 2010.
He further stated that some individuals from Bangladesh have also applied for citizenship. Their applications are currently under process, and further action will be taken after verification is completed.
