Dehradun: Dehradun Police have arrested an assistant professor in connection with the question paper leak of the Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) semester examinations. The accused allegedly compromised the confidentiality of the examination by sharing important questions with students through a WhatsApp group before the exam.
According to the police, the case was registered at Prem Nagar Police Station following a complaint by the University’s Controller of Examinations. The complaint stated that the university received an email on 8 July, alleging that important questions related to the examination had been circulated in a students’ WhatsApp group on 3 July, prior to the examination.
An internal inquiry committee constituted by the university found a significant similarity between the leaked questions and the actual examination paper. Based on the findings, the police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and initiated an investigation.
Acting on the directions of the Senior Superintendent of Police, investigators collected documentary evidence, recorded witness statements, and examined other material before arresting Ashish Kumar Gupta (40), a resident of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Police said electronic devices recovered from the accused are being examined to determine whether any other individuals were involved in the leak. Further legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.

Reacting to the incident, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the Uttarakhand government is committed to ensuring a fair and transparent examination system.
He stated that whether it is a recruitment examination or a university examination, strict action will continue against those involved in paper leaks and cheating.
The Chief Minister added that under Uttarakhand’s stringent anti-cheating law, more than 100 examination mafias and their associates have already faced action.
He asserted that those who play with the future of hardworking and deserving youth will not be spared under any circumstances.
