Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, while addressing the special Assembly session titled “Women’s Respect – Rights in Democracy” organized on the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, appealed not to politicize the issue of women empowerment. He placed a proposal before the House for a unanimous resolution to implement the Act जल्द, which aims to provide 33% reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies.
The Chief Minister said that efforts toward empowering women should not be politicized. Referring to Uttarakhand’s rich tradition of strong women, he paid tribute to Gaura Devi and many others, stating that women are no longer just participants but are now taking on leadership roles.
CM Dhami described the Nari Shakti Vandan Act as a transformative step and said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a historic initiative has been taken to ensure women’s participation in policymaking. He accused the opposition of spreading misinformation on this issue and said that politicizing women’s rights is unfortunate.
He added that the central government is working with dedication toward women empowerment. Initiatives such as Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana, and the law against triple talaq have brought positive changes in women’s lives. He said that today, daughters of the country are leading in every field.
The Chief Minister also highlighted several steps taken in Uttarakhand for women empowerment, including 30% reservation in government jobs, 33% reservation in cooperative societies, promotion of self-help groups, and encouragement of women entrepreneurship through various schemes. He stated that more than 265,000 women in the state have become “Lakhpati Didis.”
He further said that by implementing the Uniform Civil Code, Uttarakhand has taken a historic step toward protecting women’s rights. He expressed confidence that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the goal of ensuring full rights for half the population will eventually be achieved. He also appealed to the opposition to rise above party politics and extend positive cooperation on issues concerning women’s respect and rights.
