Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that Ashok Singhal dedicated his entire life to national service, preserving Indian culture, and awakening cultural consciousness. His role in transforming the Ram Janmabhoomi movement into a mass movement remains unforgettable. Fulfilling his vision of an undivided, secure, and self-respecting India serves as a true tribute to his legacy.
The Chief Minister attended the inaugural ceremony of Ashok Singhal’s birth centenary year, organized by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) at the Government Doon Medical College Auditorium in Patel Nagar on Monday. He also released a special edition of VHP’s magazine ‘Vishwa Hindu’ dedicated to Ashok Singhal.
The Chief Minister remarked that Ashok Singhal’s life serves as an inspiring example of national devotion, cultural preservation, and social unity. Despite handling major responsibilities, he maintained simplicity, accessibility, and a spirit of service. His personality demonstrates that an individual’s true worth is defined by their thoughts, conduct, and contributions to society rather than rank or stature. His ideals will continue to inspire coming generations to fulfill their duties toward the nation.
The Chief Minister noted that from the first Dharma Sansad at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi in 1984 to giving nationwide momentum to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, Ashok Singhal’s efforts were pivotal. Traveling across the country, he brought together saints, religious leaders, and diverse sections of society under a shared cause. Rooted in the ideals of Bhagwan Shri Ram, his life inspires adherence to boundaries, service, sacrifice, and duty. CM Dhami added that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the construction of the grand Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya marks a historic achievement for national faith and cultural consciousness.
The Chief Minister emphasized that social harmony, equality, and respect for all citizens’ rights are essential for a strong nation. In line with this vision, the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) has been implemented in Uttarakhand. The state government remains committed to maintaining law and order, ensuring citizen safety, and preserving social harmony. Steps continue to be taken to clear government land of encroachments, protect cattle, and safeguard the state’s cultural identity.
He stated that Ashok Singhal envisioned an India where youth pursue modern education while remaining conscious of their values, traditions, and national responsibilities. The state government is making efforts to keep youth away from drugs and align their talent with nation-building through education, sports, employment, and positive endeavors. Establishing the Center for Hindu Studies at Doon University represents a major initiative to promote the study of Indian knowledge traditions, philosophy, culture, and spiritual heritage.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Uttarakhand’s identity stems from its spiritual traditions, ancient temples, and rich cultural heritage. Alongside preserving religious sites, the state government is developing enhanced facilities for pilgrims through projects like the Kedar Khand Temple Mala Mission, Manaskhand Temple Mala Mission, Haridwar-Rishikesh Ganga Corridor, Sharda Corridor, and Golju Corridor. He cited the inauguration of the bathing ghat on the banks of River Yamuna in Haripur-Kalsi and the installation of a 21-foot statue of Maa Yamuna, adding that plans to construct a Maa Yamuna temple and a Bhagwan Shri Krishna temple in the region are moving forward.
The Chief Minister noted that the upcoming Haridwar Kumbh will be a grand celebration of Sanatan culture, Indian faith, and ancient religious traditions. The state government is strengthening arrangements to make it divine, grand, and secure, ensuring visiting pilgrims receive enhanced facilities and return with a safe, spiritual experience.
The Chief Minister concluded that translating Ashok Singhal’s thoughts and ideals into practice is key to making his birth centenary year meaningful. Inspired by his vision, the state government will work continuously with its ‘resolution without alternative’ (vikalp rahit sankalp) to strengthen Uttarakhand’s cultural identity, bring positive changes to residents’ lives, and build a leading state.
VHP Vice President Champat Rai, All India Akhara Parishad President Mahant Ravindra Puri, saints, VHP office-bearers, workers, and other dignitaries were present.
