Pithoragarh: A case has been registered against Lokeshwar Singh at Pithoragarh Kotwali on the orders of the district court. The matter has gained attention after a case was registered under various serious sections against former SP Lokeshwar Singh on charges including assaulting a trader, issuing threats, and other allegations.
What is the case?
Lakshmi Datt Joshi, a trader from Pithoragarh, had filed an application in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate alleging that on February 6, 2023, he had gone to the SP office with his daughter to complain about dirty water flowing from police quarters, where he was mistreated and assaulted.
The trader alleged that he was stripped and beaten, threatened with being implicated in a false case, and that despite complaints, no case was registered at the Kotwali. It is also claimed that the medical report confirmed the injuries.
FIR on court orders
The court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, in its order dated April 7, 2026, directed that a case be registered against Lokeshwar Singh and others under sections 323, 342, 355, 504, 506, 392, and 120-B. Following this, a case has been registered at Kotwali Pithoragarh.
Police Complaints Authority also found him guilty
In the matter, the State Police Complaints Authority, after hearing the case, had also found Lokeshwar Singh guilty and recommended disciplinary action.
Who is Lokeshwar Singh?
Lokeshwar Singh, an IPS officer of the 2014 batch, has served in Haridwar, Dehradun, Bageshwar, Champawat, Pithoragarh, and Pauri. In 2025, he resigned from police service after being selected for an international organization affiliated with the United Nations.
