Dehradun: Under the directions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Uttarakhand government is accelerating the development of modern parking facilities at Karnaprayag and Simli to make the Char Dham Yatra safer, more organised, and more convenient. The financial, technical, and construction preparedness of both projects was reviewed on Thursday during a Detailed Financial Committee (DFC) meeting chaired by Housing Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar.
Officials were instructed to complete all administrative and technical formalities within the prescribed timeline so that construction can begin without delay. The projects are expected to reduce traffic congestion during the Char Dham pilgrimage while also benefiting local residents and businesses.
The Karnaprayag Parking Project, with an estimated cost of ₹37.3 million (₹3.73 crore), will provide parking space for 22 four-wheelers. The project also includes a modern commercial hall on the first floor, which is expected to promote local business activity and generate additional revenue. It is also intended to ease roadside parking and traffic congestion in the town’s main market.
The Simli Parking Project, estimated at ₹39.8 million (₹3.98 crore), will provide parking for 30 four-wheelers. Located on National Highway-07, Simli serves as a key junction for the Char Dham Yatra, the Shri Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, and the route to Gairsain. The new parking facility is expected to improve traffic management and road safety in the area.
Housing Secretary Dr. Rajesh Kumar said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Dhami, the state government remains committed to developing modern infrastructure along the Char Dham pilgrimage routes. He described the Karnaprayag and Simli parking projects as significant steps toward improving pilgrim convenience, traffic management, and local economic activity, while directing officials to ensure high-quality construction within the stipulated timeframe.
