Chief Minister Dhami inaugurated the Town Hall of Municipal Corporation Dehradun, said – ‘Dehradun will become a leading metropolis’

Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday inaugurated the restoration and renovation work of Jugmandar Hall in a program organized at Municipal Corporation Dehradun. An amount of ₹2 crore 32 lakh 50 thousand has been spent on this work. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for canal construction work at the ABC Center located in Kedarpuram and for the development and beautification of parks at six places in the municipal corporation area.

Addressing the people present in the program, the Chief Minister said that the state government is working with the resolve of “Development as well as Heritage.” He said that Dehradun is moving forward in the direction of development while preserving its cultural identity and rich heritage. The government is continuously making efforts to ensure rapid development along with protecting culture and traditions.

He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several important schemes are being worked upon to make urban areas of the country modern and well-organized. Through the Swachh Bharat Mission, a new culture of cleanliness has developed in cities and towns. Under the AMRUT scheme, several works have been done for water supply, sewerage systems, and development of green areas. Through the Smart City Mission, cities are being made modern and well-equipped, while through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, lakhs of poor families have received their own houses.

The Chief Minister said that the state government is continuously working for the overall development of Uttarakhand. Continuous efforts are being made towards development of infrastructure, strengthening education and health services, and increasing employment opportunities for youth. Several schemes are also being worked on to make Dehradun a clean, beautiful, and developed city.

He informed that modern systems have been developed to improve solid waste management and cleanliness arrangements in the city. A mechanized transfer station has been built for waste management and an integrated command and control center has also been established to monitor garbage vehicles.

The Chief Minister said that more than ₹1400 crore worth of various development projects are being rapidly implemented to develop Dehradun as a modern city. 35 parks have been constructed in the city and a large yoga-themed park has been developed in Kedarpuram. More than 50,000 square meters of green area has also been developed through memorial parks in memory of brave martyrs.

He said that recharge pits are being constructed at waterlogging locations to promote water conservation. Keeping environmental protection in mind, 30 electric buses are being operated in the city and charging stations have been established at 11 locations for private electric vehicles.

The Chief Minister said that with the inauguration of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway soon, transportation will become faster. Keeping this in mind, special attention is being given to the development of parking, drinking water, and other basic facilities in the city. In the coming time, more efforts will be made to include Dehradun among the top clean cities of the country.

He said that to reduce traffic pressure in the city, a plan is also being prepared for the construction of elevated roads over the Rispana and Bindal rivers. In the past one year, Municipal Corporation Dehradun has increased revenue collection from about ₹52 crore to ₹73 crore, which is an increase of about 40 percent.

The Chief Minister said that preventing encroachment on government land is a priority of the state government. He expected active action in this direction from public representatives and officials of the Municipal Corporation and also appealed to the public to cooperate in making Dehradun a clean, beautiful, and modern city.

On this occasion, Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal, Ram Singh Kaida, Khajan Das, Mayor of Dehradun Saurabh Thapliyal, MLAs Umesh Sharma Kau, Savita Kapoor, Sahdev Singh Pundir, Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal and many public representatives and officials were present.
