Dehradun: Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan on Wednesday reviewed the proposed underground parking projects for Parade Ground and the Secretariat complex during a meeting at the Secretariat. Officials presented the design for the underground parking facility planned beneath Parade Ground, following which the Chief Secretary offered several key suggestions and directed that the project be developed in line with the city’s future requirements.
He said that along with the construction of the underground parking facility, a large open green space should be created by integrating Parade Ground and Gandhi Park, without constructing any new permanent structures. According to him, connecting the two sites would provide the city with a much-improved public open space.
The Chief Secretary also directed officials to examine the feasibility of developing a double-basement parking facility to increase parking capacity. He further instructed that the parking complex should have multiple entry and exit points to improve accessibility, reduce congestion, and enhance safety.
He emphasized that the project should be developed as a comprehensive urban development plan and that consultations should be held with all relevant stakeholders before finalizing the design. Considering Dehradun’s growing population and increasing traffic, he said parking infrastructure and public amenities must be planned to meet long-term needs.
The meeting also reviewed the design of the proposed underground parking facility within the Secretariat premises. In addition, the Chief Secretary directed officials to prepare a detailed design and presentation for the proposed elevated parking facility on Rajpur Road.
The meeting was attended by Public Works Department Secretary Dr. Pankaj Kumar Pandey, Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar, MDDA Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari, Chief Development Officer Abhinav Shah, and other senior officials from the concerned departments.
