Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami strongly criticized the remarks made by Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha, stating that Parliament is the highest forum of democracy, where discussions should be conducted with dignity, restraint, and based on facts.
The Chief Minister said it was unfortunate that instead of holding a meaningful debate on the strict anti-cheating law, which concerns the future of millions of young people, unparliamentary language was used.
He stated that terms such as “idiot” and “blind devotee” are not in keeping with parliamentary traditions or democratic values. Such language, he said, not only undermines the dignity of the House but also disrespects the mandate given by the people.
CM Dhami added that it is the responsibility of the Opposition to question the government with facts and offer constructive suggestions. Personal attacks and offensive language, he said, are not the hallmark of a responsible public representative. Maintaining the tradition of healthy dialogue and dignified debate is the duty of every elected representative.
He further said that the strict anti-cheating law introduced by the Central Government is an important step toward ensuring transparency in the examination system and protecting the interests of the youth. Diverting from such a serious issue and resorting to unparliamentary language, he added, is inappropriate.
The Chief Minister expressed confidence that the people of the country can clearly distinguish between those who uphold democratic values and those who violate them, emphasizing that in a democracy, the final verdict always rests with the people.
