Dehradun/New Delhi. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid a courtesy call to Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil in New Delhi and discussed in detail the preparations for the 2027 Haridwar Ardh Kumbh and projects related to Namami Gange.

Emphasis on preparations for Ardh Kumbh 2027

The Chief Minister requested the early approval of projects worth ₹408.82 crore under the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) to ensure a well-organized, successful, and environmentally sustainable event in Haridwar in 2027.

He stated that millions of devotees from India and abroad are expected to attend this mega event, scheduled from January to April 2027. Therefore, maintaining the purity, cleanliness, and uninterrupted flow of the Ganga is a top priority.

Proposal for Water Projects and Irrigation Expansion

The Chief Minister also requested approval of proposals worth ₹253 crore for flood protection works, release of additional funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and capacity expansion of the Iqbalpur Canal System, Kankhal, and Jagjitpur Canals.

He stated that the proposed works will provide 665 cusecs of additional water, benefiting the Bhagwanpur and Laksar areas of Haridwar district. Approximately 13,000 hectares of uncultivated land are expected to receive irrigation facilities. This will also help address the drinking water problem in the region.

Chief Minister Dhami stated that with the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the support of the central government, the Haridwar Ardh Kumbh 2027 will be given a divine, grand, and historic dimension, and the goal of Ganga conservation will be further strengthened.

Ardh Kumbh to be held in 2027

It is noteworthy that the Ardh Kumbh is proposed to be held in Haridwar in early 2027. This event, which will run from January to April, will include four Amrit Snans. For the first time, preparations are underway to organise Ardh Kumbh in Haridwar on the lines of Purna Kumbh, on which the saint community has also agreed.
