CM Dhami serious about jobs, high-level meeting in Dehradun, know what was discussed

Dehradun: Chief Minister Dhami held a high-level review meeting on Wednesday to discuss the progress of work done so far under skill development and connecting skilled youth with forward linkages. During the meeting, it was discussed why, despite the increase in the number of ITIs and technical institutions and trained youth in the state, they are not getting placements in industries and satisfactory salaries. The CM indicated that this points to shortcomings at the management, coordination, and platform levels and directed immediate improvements.

During the meeting, the CM said that on one hand, skilled workers for daily tasks such as barbers, plumbers, electricians, mechanics, and carpenters are not easily available. On the other hand, many young people who have received technical education from ITIs are still looking for employment. He emphasized the need to overcome this contradiction through better coordination between technical education, skill development, and other related departments.

The CM directed that the priority should be not only to create smart infrastructure but also smart human resources. He instructed to upgrade job-creating courses, trained trainers-teachers, and technical institutions like ITIs according to the demands of industries and future technology. An integrated model should be developed to create basic skilled workers for daily tasks at the local level, a medium-level technical workforce, and a highly skilled technical workforce, which will strengthen the resolve to realize the vision of Developed India @2047.

The CM directed that as soon as the youth are selected for training, they should be tagged with prospective employers. This will ensure job security during the training itself. Technical courses should be revised according to the times, and outcomes should be achieved at all three levels: 6 months, medium-term, and long-term. Youth selected for self-employment/employment opportunities abroad should be shared with the Government of India’s guidelines regarding management in various countries. Instructions were given to ensure complete transparency in government recruitment processes and the effective disposal of pending cases in court, so that recruitment results are not unnecessarily delayed.

During the meeting, Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bahuguna suggested involving industries in the training process. This will help develop demand-driven skills. He explained that if industries are also involved in determining the training and technical courses, they will be able to train young people according to the demands of the industries. This will give young people more opportunities to find jobs.
