Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday visited a grand jewellery exhibition organized by Sarafa Mandal Dehradun at a hotel on Rajpur Road. He toured the exhibition and admired various jewellery pieces, traditional designs, and the craftsmanship and skills of local goldsmiths. The Chief Minister congratulated the organizers and the goldsmith community for organizing the event.
CM Dhami said that such events play an important role in giving a new identity to Indian art, culture, traditions, and local craftsmanship. He said that the goldsmith community is not only involved in jewellery making but is also playing an important role in preserving and passing on the country’s cultural heritage and traditional art from one generation to another.
He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, continuous efforts are being made to promote local products and indigenous skills. There is a need to give Uttarakhand’s traditional jewellery—including the Garhwali Nath, Paunji, Champakali Haar, Kumaoni Guloband, Pichora Haar, and Jhumka—recognition at national and global platforms.
The Chief Minister said that traditional designs can be developed in accordance with modern requirements to achieve the goal of “Local to Global.” This will create new employment and self-employment opportunities for local artisans and goldsmiths while also helping the younger generation stay connected with their culture and traditions.
He said that the state government is committed to promoting traditional skills, handicrafts, and local artisans, along with providing opportunities for skill development and economic empowerment. Effective steps will be taken to introduce necessary schemes and measures for the advancement of goldsmiths and artisans.
CM Dhami said that the state government is moving forward with the “unwavering resolve” to make Uttarakhand the best state in the country. He called upon the goldsmith community to extend its active cooperation and participation in achieving this goal.
Office-bearers and members of Sarafa Mandal Dehradun, representatives of the goldsmith community, jewellery traders, artisans, and other dignitaries were present at the exhibition.
