Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken an important initiative on the issue of women’s reservation by writing letters to all Members of Parliament and state presidents of various political parties. He called for building broad consensus and ensuring active participation ahead of the special session of Parliament proposed from April 16 on the Nari Shakti Vandan Act.
In his letter, the Chief Minister said that the special session is a significant step toward strengthening democratic values and ensuring greater participation of women in the decision-making process. He emphasized that an inclusive society can only be built when women are given equal opportunities and leadership roles.
CM Dhami said that today, women in the country are excelling in fields such as space, sports, armed forces, and startups. Their increasing participation in public life reflects positive societal change. He also recalled that in 2023, all parties united to support this Act, marking a historic moment for democracy.
He stated that the time has come to implement the law in its true spirit and suggested that the 2029 Lok Sabha and upcoming assembly elections should be held only after full implementation of women’s reservation.
Referring to Uttarakhand, he said that women have always been respected in the state, especially in hilly regions where they form the backbone of families and society. Successful implementation of reservation in Panchayati Raj and urban bodies has already prepared strong women leadership.
He expressed confidence that increased participation of women in Parliament and assemblies will strengthen democracy and help address societal needs more sensitively. He appealed to all representatives to rise above party politics and make this a historic reform.
